italian dj legend dj rocca (from the infamous maffia club) joins forces with file under disco to produce a stunning ep of original new disco sounds. as one half of erodiscotheque alongside disco superstar dimitri from paris, and as a regular collaborator with danielle baldelli the grandaddy of the cosmic sound, dj roccas disco credentials are firmly in place. for this release, he captures the classic sound of disco funk on *love power*, but gives it a modern production twist and re-spins it for the contemporary dance floor. on the remix front, the one and only dimitri from paris rolls out one of his heavy-hitting, prelude-style nightdubbin mixes of *pizza on wednesday*, which will have your dancers beating the street for more. while dicky triscos dance floor intentions are obvious as he hits the boogie button with a hands-in-the-air retake on *a magical day*.

file under disco have steadily been building a seriously strong back catalogue of 100% original disco music. so far this has taken shape through digital eps of original material by artists like drop out orchestra and jkriv & the disco machine, plus a series of big hitting vinyl remix releases from acts like the idjut boys, ron basejam, dicky trisco, pete herbert and duff disco amongst others.

in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

part two of the idjut boys mixes on file under disco sees the legendary uk dj and production duo drop a tab of acid in jkriv & the disco machines orange juice. with effects units set to stun and a course set for acid disco space … the idjuts work classic acid house elements into these mixes to produce an effect as strong as any dodgy microdot. and with the disco machines authentic disco vocals riding and floating on top of this hybrid blend the result is a truly wanged out and rather devastating piece of dance floor magic. pure idjut style! both cuts can be filed under acid disco and are made for heads.

alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.

the catalog of pink stallone & joey washington singles continues with the arguable gem of their collaborative sessions, mine. the second daniele b & eddie mars co-production, mine exhibits the steady progression of the stallone sludge-funk thump, again fueled by gushing maturity and composure from washington vocals. eddie mars even delivers his own stunningly-authentic production of the stallone/washington sound, marking the first official mars rendition of pink stallone since his inception as a producer and member of the live group. with this comes two workouts by master of the deep the revenge who provides a stripped back timeless dub. one of those tracks that will still sound great in twenty years time. simple and effective with a hint of grandeur. finally wrapping things up are s.a.s (subb-an & adam shelton). following the bumping foot & mouth release earlier this summer we had to ask the boys to give there twist and they sure delivered. acid base and full throttle beats transform >mine< into a jacking dancefloor destroyer, be warned!
